There is 2 main things we need when delivering water to our trees, that is a high volume of water and a soft flow. Most standard garden nozzles don't do this. We need a high volume of water to ensure the trees root ball gets completly watered. The only way to do this is flood the pot multiple times and let it drain through. We also need a very soft flow of water as the larger the water drops the more your soil surface will become compacted preventing your tree from taking on water properly. This can cause the center of your root ball to die off which will cause major issues at repotting time.
Yes! Unlike regular garden nozzles these wands are very simple with minimal moving parts and some of the higher quality ones have no plastic at all which means they will last forever in the elements. Chances are if you buy one of these it will be the last one you buy. if you buy regular garden nozzles you will buy a few in your lifetime. Most of these nozzles can be services very simply as well meaning you can keep them in good working order.
If you are using the wand on town supplied water we suggest once a week at least unscrewing the end of the nozzle if you have the type with a screw in mesh, This will prevent the screw from welding shut due to the calcium in the water which dries like concrete. If the nozzle begins spraying in weird patterns or is not as soft anymore you can either remove the head or mesh depending on what type you have and soak it overnight in vinegar and bi carb soda. this will free the fine holes back up which can become clogged due to chemicals in the town water.
The hose attaches directly to the wand, to do this heat the end of the hose up in a cup of hot water or use a heat gun. Once the hose becomes soft you can slide it up over the base of the wand as far as you can. When the hose cools it will grip on. For wands with a valve you will also need a clamp which can be placed on the hose in front of the clamp bump on the bottom of the wand.
For wands with a valve this allows you to control the flow of water, for wands without a valve you do this by kinking the hose to get the desired flow or set the desired flow at the tap. Please note that the valve is not there to completely block the flow of water off as this may pop your hose off the wand due to back pressure.
