What are bonsai Root Rakes used for?

Root Rakes are used to help remove compacted surface material to help return proper percolation to your root ball. If your tree stops taking on water that is usually the issue if the tree is not root bound. The surface can become compacted due to fertilizer applications or a heavy spray from a regular hose nozzle.

What are the different types of root rakes?

Some root rakes will have a second tool on the other end such as tweezers or a spatula. The other differences can be a straight rake or a rake that has a slight bend at the end which makes it less stressful on the wrist. And lastly some rakes have thicker tines which allows them to be used a little more aggressively on heavily compacted soil surfaces.
