Wire cutters for bonsai are designed specially for bonsai wire. The bull nose wire cutters prevent your from over cutting the wire and cutting into your branches or trunk. The scissor type wire cutters allow you to get the wire cutters in to tight spaces with dense branching without causing damage. The detail wire cutters are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand during sessions where you are wiring branch tips, you will often need your wire cutters in this situation and the small size of these cutters allow you to keep them in your hand without the need to continually put them down and pick them back up.

Technically yes, but we wouldn't recommend it. Regular wire cutters are often bulky in size which increases the risk of knocking off fine branching or buds while trying to cut wire. The other issue is the way regular wire cutters are designed it is easy to over cut into your branches causing damage.

If you get the 205mm bull nose wire cutters then you will be able to cut all sizes of wire, if you get the scissor type or detail wire cutters you will be restricted to around 2.5mm - 3mm wire.
