There are 3 main jobs for tweezers in bonsai which are pulling roots, needle plucking and pinching. When pulling up roots you want to be able to get them firm at the base to be able to pull the entire root system up to ensure the weed wont grow again. For needle plucking some people use tweezers as this avoids their hands becoming covered in very sticky sap. Tweezers are also better for needle plucking dense pines as well to avoid accidentally damaging needles by sticking your hands in the tree. When it comes to pinching some times the growth is so small we cant get our fingers in to grab the growth properly which is why tweezers are employed for that job.
Down turned tweezers are great for weeds that have their base on the very surface or for pine needles that are on the outer canopy of the tree. Straight tweezers shine when a weed has a base or root system that is further down in the soil and you need a straight end that can go down into the soil and grab that bass. The straight tweezers are also great for being able to get deeper into the tree for needle plucking or pinching.
