Pruning Japanese Maple For Branch Structure ( Video )

How to Prune Japanese Maple Bonsai To Develop Structural Branching

In the following video Josh will show you the thought process and techniques behind pruning a Japanese Maple that is in the mid stages of development to begin the branch structure. At this stage the trunk has been grown to a thickness that is desirable and there has been cuts made to create trunk taper. We now need to focus on starting to create first branching in the right places and work on getting the branch structure taper correct so that when the tree gets transferred to refinement we can concentrate completely on ramification.
