What Is A Sickle?

A sickle is actually a tool that is used to cut rope and to harvest plants. But in bonsai we can use them to remove root bound trees from their pots. By sliding the thin blade down the inside wall of the pot you can free up the roots from the wall and remove a small amount of soil which relives the pressure making it easier to remove the tree from the pot.

What Size Sickle Should I Get?

This depends on how deep your pots are, you will want a sickle that has a long enough blade that will reach the bottom of your pot. But you don't want the sickle to be too large if you are only working with small trees as this can be cumbersome and potentially cause damage.
